Emily Buczynski

BFA - painting

My recent work explores human relationships at an increasingly sensuous level. I try to not only depict the relationship on the surface, but the part of it that may go beyond life in the physical world. It is my personal belief that there is a spiritual part of us that connects with others on a level that is much more intangible than our body. These spiritual connections can be sexual or romantic in nature, but by no means are they confined to that. Siblings, parents and their children, best friends, lovers, are all examples of interpersonal links that on rare occasions may possess an ethereal component that allows them to move beyond the material world, while still remaining in sync.

My goal is to engage the viewer in a truly intimate and emotional experience. The scenes that I choose are meant to spark some sort of memory or personal experience in the viewer. This is not to say the images themselves serve as dream-like or nostalgic entities. Instead they exist as passionate, live, raw fragments of frozen time that strive to consume the viewer, taking them into that very moment in time like it were their own reality.
